My power went off, is my food in the refrigerator and freezer safe?
lightningIt is severe weather season and power outages typically occur.  How safe your food will be depends on how full your appliances are, what kind of food you have stored, and how long the power was out.  Use a thermometer in your appliances to monitor temperatures.  If the temperature is 40°F or below, the food will be safe.  For more information, see the Disaster section of the K-State Extension Food Safety web site.
